despite its morale-boosting characteristics, the shower was not invented until the 18th century. and even then, it remained practically out of reach for the general public for at least 200 years.

the shower only started to gain mainstream adoption after world war 2, especially in the 60s and 70s. in some regions around the world, notably southeast asia, people prefer the bucket-over-the-head method when showering.

ironically, when the shower started to be widely adopted by americans, many believed that the hot, steamy streams of water were particularly stressful for women and children!
